So, eating a dish of rice, veg and mixed fish on Friday evening and MIB started to go a bit quiet and claiming he felt unwell. After more verbal probing, it seemed that he was happy to eat the ‘pink’ fish, veg and rice but not the rest.
I checked his eyes as they usually go pink and itchy with other allergies quite quickly. Both looked quite normal, but he was itching them a bit with the back of his hand…but then it was getting late and he does that when tired. Could also be a sign of boredom of Mum asking all these questions while he just wanted to get on to eating pudding.
We did manage to pin down that his mouth felt like it did when he ate houmous laced with chilli (an error on my part recently!). But then said his tummy felt ‘funny’ too. We discussed piriton. He said a firm ‘no’. But then, he’s only 3….should I be trusting his judgement? Mind you, he does usually have a good instinct on thes things.
I ended up giving him a marmite sandwich and kept watching him constantly for the next 20 mins or so. No symptoms and he perked up fine.
Now, I have been getting suspicious of ‘white fish’ for a while now. Fish fingers don’t seem to give him any trouble and nor does salmon or trout. But, white fish from the fish counter or even pre-packed fresh seems to be not good. Just not sure how and how much.
All thoughts welcome on this. Is it something common? Might have to put a call into the allergy clinic this week.
