Our second swimming attempt was a bit different as we were on holiday in Tenerife. The pool had a gradual slope so he could get his toes in without too much commitment. After about three days he was happy going up to his shoulders and there were no skin flare ups as a result. The hardest part of all for me was taking off his t-shirt.
He had been hot and bothered and not slept well in the nights and had been scratching a lot. This hadn’t caused any eczema, just a lot of scratches on his back where he had crossed his arms and scratched each side of him. This meant that in just his swim shorts he looked like he’d had a good whipping from us. At least we didn’t know anyone there and there were not any British tourists to get into conversation with. I hated how he looked. I felt horribly embarrassed. More than anything I felt relieved he was at least not old enough to have any awareness of this.
