The Olympics are everywhere. Even on the stamps I bought today.
MIB is bringing home stuff from nursery to do with the games, he made a torch at playgroup today, but still has no clue what it is all about.
And me? Well I just don’t know how to explain it to him. I have tried. I think the trouble is that he has no reference point for them. For example, he does know about different countries, but the concept of them competing is completely lost on him.
To start with he kept asking to ‘play’ the Olympic Games. When I said ‘err…no’ and changed the subject quickly so as not to have to answer further questions, he then asked if he could play the ‘2012 Games’ instead.
We are currently working with: they are a sort of race and he’ll be able to watch some of them on the TV with Daddy (you have probably gauged my level of interest by now). He is placated marginally by this, but is still quite upset about not being able to go to see these ‘races’ that everyone is talking about. I love that his world is so wonderfully small and naïve that he expects to be a part of something that everyone else knows about and what all the signs are about.
