We’ve been trying to arrange a weekend away to stay with friends. MIB got interested in the trip as soon as he heard they had cats. Although cats sometimes flare up his eczema, it is usually mild and he loves cats. They don’t love him so much as he is rather full-on with the attention and expects them to be happy to accept his clumsy cuddling.
When he found out we might stay there he was super keen. After finding out what the cats names were and what they looked like, the children’s names and what town it was, his next question was whether we would be having breakfast there. When I told him that we would, his next question says everything about bringing up an allergic child: “Will they have anything I can eat?”.
He didn’t ask it with anything other than curiosity but it made me sad.
His point is valid, of course. As a family, we are difficult to host. Between keeping cats out of sleeping areas and the need to inspect any menus (of the host and any of their favourite restaurants they want to take us to), it can be a lot of effort for just one night away.
*sigh*
