So, despite the trains not being on our side and getting up too late we still made it to The Allergy Show on Sunday. Sadly, we missed the parent seminar on having an allergic child. We decided to not worry about missing it as sleep was far more important that morning (MIB did not sleep well after getting to bed late due to a wedding on Saturday). Am hoping someone will tell me any gems we missed.
We got to the show at midday and there were already no freebie bags in sight. I only found out that there should’ve been any at all from someone who wouldn’t give up a freebie on a stall since there was one already in my ‘goodie bag’. So, no idea what I missed out on there either.
Inside it seemed tightly packed and I heard mention a few times that Saturday was full of screaming children, hot, sweaty visitors and organisers fretting about the fire safety limit being breached.
Luckily, although the aisles were crammed, stallholders mostly had time to chat. I enjoyed being able to say thank you to people who make our lives easier and to encourage them to continue their good work.
More than that though, I found it so much fun being able to let MIB help himself to biscuits, cake and other bite-sized treats put out to sample. Never have I seen so much that was nut, dairy, soya and egg-free in one product and he was loving it all!
Unfortunately, by the time we got the eczema area, MIB was getting pretty fed up. As it is though, I don’t like messing around with treatment for his skin too much these days, having already been on a long journey to get to where we are. However, I came away with a couple of samples to try for myself.
MIB did have a terrible eczema rash by Sunday evening. I think it is more likely to be something he ate on Saturday or something in the gardens he was playing in – or even just from heat of running around in the sunshine. I felt able to trust the stalls at the show, but then we are perhaps lucky/complacent with his allergies.
Visiting anywhere like this with a toddler on only 4hrs sleep is always a bit of a challenge so was pleased we made the effort to get up there in the face of adversity. However, I think I will make sure I’m better prepared for next year.
