Yes, this is something I’ve heard a lot of lately.
Since moving house MyItchyBoy has ceased sleeping through the night. This is not a good thing and my mood, temper and general health are suffering as a result. He himself has a few theories on it. He likes his new room, a lot, but apparently the ceiling wakes him up sometimes (???) and the birds also wake him up early sometimes (this is more justified as the garden is full of them) and he is also scared of the wind causing a power cut. This last one is more recent due to the bad weather.
However, just when I am in the middle of a lovely, deep sleep, it does seem that the reasons I’m actually dragged out of bed are:
– MyItchyBoy coughing a lot and needing Ventolin
– Getting his pyjama trouser legs stuck right up the top of his thighs where he has pulled them up high to have a really good scratch and got them stuck. This also applies to his sleeves, although that appears to be less distressing for him. It certainly involves less writhing around in a sort of tortured manner
– Needing more cream on. Although this one is more often about 20 mins after going to bed when he has scratched all the Epaderm off his legs
I wish it were more easy to take advice of well-meaning friends with children the same age who tell me to ‘just ignore him’ in the night and he’ll stop. However, when I have tried, I know that the more upset he gets, the more likely it is the sheet will have blood on it the next morning and we’ll be spending the next week getting his skin back to ‘normal’.
In the meantime, I am just hoping that he will eventually settle properly and give me and himself the decent night’s sleep we both badly need.
