So far we have avoided all Christmas and summer parties at playgroups and nursery, etc. without MIB noticing. Thankfully, it has been easy as he has been too young to know what he’s missing. However, there is a change coming.
Now he is at a nursery and will start preschool this year, it will be harder to avoid these seasonal occasions without him catching on. plus, now there are birthday parties too.
When his first party invite arrived, my first thought was ‘aww…’ as it felt like a sort of kiddie milestone. My second thought was ‘Eek! What about food?!?!’. In the end we were unable to make the date, but it did get me thinking in preparation for the inevitable.
These days it seems unlikely that he would be the only child that needs to be careful with what he eats as dairy allergy/intolerance seems to be high these days.
Nevertheless, it does bring an extra worry for me to leave him with parents who are not familiar with allergic reactions. I don’t know how they would feel to be left with his Yellow Cross pouch and basic instructions, if it were me, I’d be concerned. I’d rather be concentrating on my own child’s birthday celebration instead of having to watch someone else’s child. Still, a while to go until he’s left to fend for himself, I hope, but certainly worth me getting used to the idea now.
