Piriton is a wonderful thing and is, thankfully, fast working. However, I sometimes wish it did actually make MIB drowsy, as the pharmacists warn you!
We carry a small supply in MIB’s YellowCross pouch. We’ve also supplied grandparents with a bottle, just in case.
We got this organised after I spent hours driving around in the dark late at night without a map trying to find a pharmacy open at 11pm whilst away for a ‘relaxing’ weekend. Whilst driving I was cursing myself that we hadn’t thought to bring any with us (this was before the peanut experience) whilst also in a panic that the eczema flare up could develop into something more scary.
When I got back to the holiday house, I found MIB and husband cosy in bed playing on the IPod. I swore then that we would be more prepared in future. I bought a small medicine bottle from the pharmacy along with a packaged plastic medicine syringe. I have labelled the bottle with the proper medicine name and expiry date as well as the dosage. There is enough room to put the bottle, syringe and one Epipen in the YellowCross pouch and we have had no troubles carrying this onto flights.
There is some pressure from parents of allergic children on the manufacturers to make Piriton more transportable (the bottle does get very sticky quickly!) and I will if I can find some links to that to add on here.
